Student Opinions
“I have gained knowledge on how to interact with people and I know myself better and am better able to express myself. I have also learned that work comes before pleasure and that you have to collaborate with all kinds of people to get a job done. My internship has helped me manage my time and responsibly between school and my job in the real world. I am motivated to go to school and I am excited to learn something new every day”
--2010 graduate who has a full scholarship to Alverno College “I wish everyone could have the opportunity I have had with my internship. I have gained maturity and the ability to speak and act around people in a professional environment. I have learned things that can’t be taught in a classroom and I have been inspired by the people I have met. I can see myself successfully transitioning from high school to college and on to law school.” --Sophomore intern at a law firm “Carmen High School and the Student Internship Program have changed my life. I have seen real life and I have learned that it is not as easy as kids think it is. I have had to learn to be patient, to be consistent, and to discipline myself. Carmen is teaching me to become the man I am going to become by putting me in learning situations.” --Junior intern at a nonprofit organization ”I can’t believe all that I have learned. I know now how things work in a hospital and I have the opportunity to talk to nurses and doctors about their jobs. Balancing high school and an internship is tough and it pushes you, but it prepares you for something bigger in life. I have a feel for the workplace and I am lucky—not many teenagers get this kind of opportunity to talk to and learn from professionals.” --Senior intern at a hospital “Being part of the Student Internship Program is a lot of responsibility. It’s hard to keep up with work and school, but once you are able to organize yourself, it’s fun. You are always learning and you will have work experience when you graduate from high school. You will know how to interview and doors will open.” --Junior intern at a college “The Student Internship Program has taught me to open my mind and my eyes. I finally understand the importance of going to school and getting good grades. I want to make it. I want to go to college and have a career and I know that unless I keep studying and working that I won’t be able to achieve my goals.” --Sophomore intern at a museum |
